Arrest of Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon (2014)

On March 26, 2014, Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon was arrested by FBI agents as part of an undercover corruption sting after accepting cash from undercover operatives in exchange for official favors. The arrest occurred at Charlotte City Hall; Cannon resigned later that day. He pleaded guilty to a federal honest-services fraud charge and was sentenced in 2015 to 44 months in prison.
