Bobastro

Bobastro, located in the Province of Málaga, Spain, is a historic castle with Roman origins that became significant in the 9th century as the stronghold of Umar ibn Hafsun during his rebellion against the Caliphate of Córdoba. The site, which has been occupied since Roman times, served as a rallying point for the Muwallads and Mozarabs who opposed heavy taxation and mistreatment. Notably, in 888 AD, a political assassination took place here, further entrenching its role in the region's tumultuous history. The rebels even constructed a church within the castle, which stood until their autonomy ended in 928. Although the castle remained in use until 1147, it fell into ruins by the 13th century, leaving behind a fascinating glimpse into the medieval struggles of the Iberian Peninsula.
