42nd Street Airlines Terminal

The 42nd Street Airlines Terminal, located at the intersection of Park Avenue and 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan, was the first airline terminal in New York City, originally built on the site of the former Hotel Belmont. It served major airlines like American, Eastern, TWA, United, and Pan Am, facilitating passenger transfers to Newark Airport and later to New York International Airport. As air travel evolved, the terminal's role diminished, leading to its renaming as the Airlines Building in 1954 and eventual demolition in 1978, making way for the Philip Morris Building. This historical site reflects the early days of commercial aviation in New York City.
