Legislative Buildings, Douglas

The Legislative Buildings in Douglas, Isle of Man, serve as the meeting place for the Tynwald, the island's legislative body. Established in the late 19th century, the complex showcases neoclassical architecture and has a rich history dating back to the 16th century when the Tynwald's lower house met at Castle Rushen. The House of Keys relocated to Douglas in 1861, and after acquiring the former Bank of Mona Building in 1879, it established its chamber there. A new building was commissioned in 1894, featuring ornate design elements, and further expansions occurred in the 1970s. The site is now a protected building, reflecting its significance in the Isle of Man's governance and architectural heritage.
