Dumbarton Oaks Conference of 1944

Dumbarton Oaks was the site of the 1944 conferences (August–October) where representatives of the United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, and China negotiated proposals for an international organization that led directly to the founding structure of the United Nations. The meetings at the Dumbarton Oaks estate produced key recommendations on membership, the Security Council, and the General Assembly that shaped the UN Charter. The estate continues to operate as Dumbarton Oaks, a research institute and museum affiliated with Harvard University.
