San Francisco Columbarium (repository of cremated remains)

The San Francisco Columbarium, constructed in 1898, is a niche repository that holds thousands of cremated human remains of San Franciscans dating to the early 20th century. It sits near the eastern edge of Golden Gate Park and displays historic urn niches and memorial plaques. The columbarium has survived periods of closure and was restored and reopened to the public as a historic funerary building.
