Twin Peaks Tavern and open-front visibility

Twin Peaks Tavern at 401 Castro Street opened in 1972 and is notable for its large, street-facing windows at a time when many gay bars remained hidden from public view. The tavern's visible storefront is frequently cited in LGBT histories of San Francisco as a landmark in the movement toward openness and community presence in the Castro.
