Yulee Area

The Yulee area, located on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, is a historic residence hall complex that includes Yulee, Mallory, and Reid Halls. Built in 1950, these were the first permanent dormitories for women after the university became co-educational in 1947. The complex features a contemporary architectural style and is significant for being named after prominent women, reflecting their historical contributions. Yulee Hall houses the Global Living Learning Community, while Reid Hall supports the Fine Arts Living Learning Community, fostering cultural awareness and artistic development among students. The area is also represented by the Yulee Area Council, which engages residents in university governance. In 2008, the Yulee area was added to the National Register of Historic Places, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in educational history and women's contributions to academia.
