Fort Lawton remnants in Discovery Park

Discovery Park contains remnants of the former U.S. Army post Fort Lawton, established around 1900, including coastal artillery batteries, bunkers and other military structures. Much of the Fort Lawton land was transferred to the city and became Discovery Park in the early 1970s, and the military ruins remain visible in parts of the park. These historic military features are less prominent than the park's beaches and trails but are accessible to visitors exploring the north bluff and former base areas.
