Camp Logan / Houston Riot of 1917 (site)

Camp Logan was a World War I Army training camp located in what is now Houston's Memorial Park. On August 23, 1917, soldiers of the African American 24th Infantry Regiment left Camp Logan and entered Houston, resulting in violent clashes with local police and civilians; the incident led to a large-scale court-martial of participating soldiers. The former camp grounds are within present-day Memorial Park, which preserves the location's connection to the event.
