Detroit Institute of Arts building (Beaux-Arts and Rivera murals)

The Detroit Institute of Arts main building on Woodward Avenue was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Paul Philippe Cret and opened in the late 1920s. The building's interior houses Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry Murals, painted in 1932–1933, which were commissioned specifically for the museum and wrap the walls of the Rivera Court. The museum building is a major example of civic Beaux-Arts architecture in Detroit.
