Artuklu Palace

The Artuklu Palace, located in the historic İçkale neighborhood of Diyarbakır, Turkey, served as the seat of the Artuqid dynasty in the 12th and 13th centuries. Built during the reign of Nasir al-Din Mahmud, this palace is notable for its rich architectural features and historical significance, including its association with the renowned scholar Al-Jazari, who worked here for 30 years. Although partially excavated in the 1960s, much of the palace remains buried under a mound. The palace is renowned for its elaborate door knockers featuring dragons and lions, which reflect the artistic traditions of the era. Visitors can explore the remnants of this once-grand structure, which influenced later architectural styles in the region.
