Charles Walter Hart House

The Charles Walter Hart House, located in Charles City, Iowa, is a historic structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980. Built in 1914, this unique building showcases a blend of American Craftsman and Prairie School architectural styles, featuring a hollow clay tile structure with rockfaced granite, brick, and stucco-half-timberwork. The house is notable for its association with Charles Walter Hart, co-founder of the Hart-Parr Co., the first company in the U.S. to manufacture farm tractors. During World War I, the company contributed to the war effort by producing shells for the U.S. Army. After the war, Hart transitioned to wheat farming and oil refining in Montana, while Hart-Parr eventually merged to form Oliver Farm Equipment Company.
