Japanese Tea Garden (oldest public Japanese garden in the U.S.)

The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park was established in 1894 for the California Midwinter International Exposition and later developed into a permanent public garden. It is widely cited as the oldest public Japanese garden in the United States and features traditional elements such as pagodas, stone lanterns, arched bridges, and a tea house. The garden has been a continuous cultural and horticultural attraction in San Francisco since the late 19th century. It is managed as part of the city’s Golden Gate Park facilities.
