La Villita Historic Arts Village

La Villita is one of San Antonio's oldest neighborhoods, originating in the 18th century as a settlement of artisans along the San Antonio River. Many of its buildings were rehabilitated in the 1930s with involvement from the Works Progress Administration and later restored and reinterpreted for HemisFair '68. Today La Villita functions as an arts village with galleries, shops, and performance spaces housed in historic structures. The site is frequently referenced in accounts of San Antonio's historic downtown fabric and cultural preservation efforts.
