City Tavern - Revolutionary-era gathering place (reconstructed)

The original City Tavern opened in 1773 and was a popular dining and meeting place for members of the Continental Congress and other Revolutionary-era leaders. The historic structure was demolished in the 19th century and a reconstruction of the tavern, based on archaeological and documentary evidence, opened on the site as a restaurant and museum interpretive site in the 1970s. The site is commonly cited in local lore as a place where delegates socialized and dined during the founding era.
