Monkton, Brisbane

Monkton is a heritage-listed timber-framed house located in Corinda, Brisbane, designed by Elina Mottram in 1925. As one of the few surviving works of early women architects in Queensland, it holds historical significance for its association with the advancement of women in the architectural profession. The house features a symmetrical façade, detailed interiors, and practical built-in joinery, reflecting Mottram's focus on utility and comfort. Visitors can appreciate its architectural integrity and the story of a pioneering female architect who overcame barriers in a male-dominated field. Monkton was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 2008.
