Cable Building (New York City)

The Cable Building, located at 611 Broadway in Manhattan's NoHo and Greenwich Village, is a striking nine-story Beaux-Arts structure designed by renowned architect Stanford White and completed in 1894. Originally serving as the headquarters and power station for the Metropolitan Traction Company, it played a crucial role in the city's cable car system. The building features intricate architectural details, including a limestone base, a copper cornice adorned with lion faces, and impressive sculptures at its entrance. Over the years, it has housed various tenants, including pop artist Keith Haring and the Angelika Film Center, which now occupies its historic basement.
