Boylston Market

Boylston Market, a historic 19th-century building in Boston designed by architect Charles Bulfinch, served as a vibrant hub for commerce and culture from its completion in 1810 until its demolition in 1887. Located at the intersection of Boylston and Washington Streets, the market featured a three-story structure with stalls for provisions, spacious rooms, and a grand hall that hosted various events, including concerts and anti-slavery conventions. Notable tenants included the Linnaean Society and the Handel and Haydn Society. The building was named in honor of philanthropist Ward Nicholas Boylston and was a significant site for community gatherings and performances. After its demolition, the Boylston Building was constructed in its place, while remnants of the original structure, like the belfry, found new homes in other locations.
