The Mahdi's Tomb

The Mahdi's tomb, located in Omdurman, Sudan, is the burial site of Muhammad Ahmad, the leader of a significant Islamic revolt against Turco-Egyptian rule in the late 19th century. Established after the Mahdist victory in 1885, the tomb became a sacred site until it was desecrated by British forces in 1898. Following its reconstruction in 1947, the tomb now stands next to the Khalifa House Museum and is recognized by UNESCO for its outstanding cultural value.
