The Alamo - archaeological excavations and burials

Archaeological investigations at the Alamo (300 Alamo Plaza) have uncovered subsurface features including foundations of earlier mission-era structures and human burials dating to the 18th and 19th centuries. Excavations carried out intermittently since the 19th century and more systematically in the 1990s–2000s have documented artifacts and stratigraphy beneath and around the chapel and Long Barrack. Findings from these underground investigations have informed historical interpretation and have occasionally been the subject of public debate over conservation and display.
