Stone of Hope (Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial)

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial's central sculpture is a 30-foot-tall white granite statue known as the 'Stone of Hope,' carved by Chinese sculptor Lei Yixin from a larger block of white granite. The memorial's design references King's line 'Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope' from his 'I Have a Dream' speech. The memorial opened in 2011 on the Tidal Basin and is a documented part of the National Mall landscape.
