Alcatraz Island - "The Rock"

Alcatraz Island is a small rocky island in San Francisco Bay commonly nicknamed "The Rock." It served as a federal penitentiary from 1934 to 1963 and is now managed by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The island's prison and rock outcrop are a major historic and tourist site, with ferries departing from Pier 33 to reach it.
