Linden Place

Linden Place is a stunning Federal-style mansion in Bristol, Rhode Island, built in 1810 by General George DeWolf, a prominent slave trader and merchant. Designed by architect Russell Warren, it showcases exquisite architectural features such as Palladian windows and Corinthian columns, making it one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in New England. The mansion is surrounded by 1.8 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens filled with sculptures, including Greek bronzes. Visitors can explore the rich history of the DeWolf family, including their involvement in privateering and the slave trade, as well as notable residents like Samuel Pomeroy Colt and actress Ethel Barrymore. Linden Place operates as a historic house museum and is maintained by the Friends of Linden Place, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving this architectural gem.
