Chalmers Knitting Mills

Chalmers Knitting Mills, located in Amsterdam, New York, was a historic factory established in 1913, known for its distinctive L-shaped design featuring a four-story brick section and a seven-story steel frame addition built in 1916. The mill specialized in producing undergarments and operated under the Chalmers name until 1959. Recognized for its historical significance, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. However, the factory was demolished in 2011 following a $1.4 million state grant for restoration and a $1.9 million cleanup for environmental contamination.
