Point Loma / Cabrillo National Monument - fossil-bearing marine terraces

The Point Loma peninsula within Cabrillo National Monument preserves late Pleistocene marine terraces and rocky shore outcrops containing fossil marine shells and other marine deposits described in regional geologic surveys. Interpretive exhibits at Cabrillo discuss the peninsula's geological history and fossil occurrences. Like other federal sites, collecting fossils or disturbing formations on the monument is prohibited by park regulations.
