Kikumoto Department Store

Kikumoto Department Store, established in 1932 in Taipei, Taiwan, was the first department store in the region and a symbol of modernization during the Japanese colonial period. Known as 'seven-storied sky' for its impressive seven-story structure, it was the second tallest building in Taiwan at the time. The store featured advanced facilities, including the first commercial passenger elevator, attracting many visitors. After World War II, it underwent several ownership changes and rebranding before closing in 1979. In 2017, it was designated a Historic Building of Taiwan, and plans for its reconstruction and preservation are underway, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
