Cotheret Building

The Cotheret Building, located at 536 4th Avenue in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, is a notable structure built in 1903. It stands out as the only building in the area with an original second story balcony. Historically, the upper floors have served as rented rooms under various names, including the Cotheret and Gaslamp Hotel. The building is also linked to local history through its connection to Ida Bailey, a famous madam, whose Canary Cottage was situated behind it, accessible via a narrow alley that led to the Fan Tan Gambling House.
