Fisk University and the Jubilee Singers

Fisk University was founded in 1866 as a historically Black university in Nashville. In 1871 Fisk formed the Fisk Jubilee Singers to raise funds for the school; the group toured internationally and helped popularize African American spirituals. Jubilee Hall, completed in 1876, is on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a landmark on the university campus.
