Bunker Hill Monument - early major Revolutionary War memorial

The Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown commemorates the June 17, 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill and is a 221-foot granite obelisk whose construction began in the 1820s and was completed in the 1840s. The monument was one of the earliest large-scale commemorations of the American Revolution and remains a focal point of Charlestown National Historical Park. Visitors can ascend an interior staircase to an observation platform near the top (commonly cited as 294 steps) for views of the surrounding area.
