Freer Gallery of Art - Smithsonian's Freer collection and Peacock Room

The Freer Gallery of Art opened in 1923 after collector Charles Lang Freer donated his art collection and funding for the building, making it one of the Smithsonian museums founded from a private bequest. The Freer houses extensive Asian art collections and the famed Peacock Room by James McNeill Whistler, installed as a single-room display. The building forms part of the Freer/Sackler complex and sits on the National Mall.
