Javanshir Fortress

Javanshir Fortress, located 4 km north of Talystan in the Ismayilli region of Azerbaijan, is a historic defensive structure built during the reign of the Mehranids dynasty in Caucasus Albania. Named after its builder, ruler Javanshir, the fortress served as an administrative center and features a complex of walls and towers made from lime and river stones. Covering an area of 1.5 to 2 hectares, it includes an inner fortress called Naringala, which is situated on a mountain's highest point. The fortress is surrounded by the Agchay river valley and boasts impressive defensive features, including six towers and thick walls, some reaching over 10 meters in height. Although parts of the structure have been damaged by landslides, it remains a significant historical site, offering insights into the architecture and military strategies of its time.
