Senate House (University of Madras)

The Senate House, located in Chennai, India, serves as the administrative center of the University of Madras. Constructed between 1874 and 1879 by architect Robert Chisholm, it is a prime example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, featuring Byzantine elements. The building boasts a grand hall with impressive height, stained-glass windows, and intricate murals. After a restoration completed in 2006, it was reopened by President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. The Senate House has hosted significant events, including the first National Handloom Day inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chennai Photo Biennale, making it a notable site for both tourists and researchers interested in architecture and cultural history.
