Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern

The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is a decommissioned 1926 underground drinking-water reservoir that was opened for public tours and events in 2016. Its landmark column-and-reflection-pool interior has been used for art installations and guided tours run by the Buffalo Bayou Park Conservancy. Photographs and videos of the Cistern’s dramatic lighting and symmetry have been widely shared on social media. The Cistern is accessed from Buffalo Bayou Park and is frequently cited in online coverage of Houston’s repurposed industrial sites.
