West London Air Terminal

The West London Air Terminal, operational from 1957 to 1974, served as a check-in facility for British European Airways flights to Heathrow Airport. Located on Cromwell Road in Kensington, it was designed to facilitate easier access to the airport, allowing passengers to check in their baggage before traveling by coach. The terminal featured a temporary building initially, followed by a permanent structure opened in 1963 by Prince Philip. Despite its innovative services, including electronic reservations and computerized check-in, the terminal closed its check-in facilities in 1974, although bus services continued until 1979. Today, the site has been transformed into Point West apartments with a Sainsbury's superstore, making it a unique blend of history and modern living.
