Plevna, Tampere

Plevna is a historic industrial building in the Finlayson neighborhood of central Tampere, Finland, originally constructed between 1876 and 1877 for the textile manufacturer Finlayson Oy. Once home to the largest weaving hall in the Nordic countries, it is notable for being the first building in the region to utilize electric lighting, powered by Thomas Edison’s technology in 1882. Today, Plevna features a Finnkino movie theatre, the largest outside Greater Helsinki, with 10 auditoriums and a capacity of 1653 seats, and serves as a key venue for the annual Tampere Film Festival. Additionally, it houses the Plevna brewery restaurant, which offers its own beers and those from the adjacent Koskipanimo microbrewery, making it a vibrant spot for both dining and entertainment.
