Cane Hill College

Cane Hill College, established in 1834 in Canehill, Arkansas, was the first institution of higher learning in the state and played a significant role in the region's educational history until its closure in 1891. Originally founded as Cane Hill School by Cumberland Presbyterians, it became a collegiate institute in 1852. The college faced numerous challenges, including closure during the Civil War and a devastating fire in 1885. Today, the remaining building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as a historical landmark, reflecting the legacy of higher education in Arkansas.
