Needle Tower in the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden

Needle Tower is a tensegrity sculpture created in 1968 by Kenneth Snelson and is a prominent outdoor work in the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden on the National Mall. The piece uses an open lattice of aluminum tubes held in compression by tensioned steel cables, illustrating Snelson's signature structural techniques. The Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden is part of the Smithsonian Institution and displays modern and contemporary outdoor sculpture.
