Ryves Holt House

Ryves Holt House, built in 1680, is recognized as the oldest surviving house in Delaware and is located in Lewes. This historic building served as one of the region's earliest inns and was operated by Philip Russell, who had connections to William Penn. In 1721, it was purchased by Ryves Holt, the first Chief Justice of Sussex County. Today, the house is owned by the Lewes Historical Society and was designated as part of the First State National Historical Park in 2014, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American history.
