George Adderley House

The George Adderley House, also known as the Bahamian House, is a historic site located in Marathon, Florida. Recognized as the oldest house in the Florida Keys outside of Key West, it was built between 1903 and 1905 using a unique tabby concrete made from local materials. The house was home to George Adderley, a black immigrant from the Bahamas who became a naturalized citizen and contributed to the local economy through sponge collecting and charcoal production. The site is part of the Crane Point Museum & Nature Center, where visitors can explore the house and learn about the history of Adderley Town, a small community that developed around the Adderleys. The annual Bahamian Heritage Festival held in January celebrates the rich Bahamian culture in the region, making it a fascinating destination for tourists and researchers alike.
