Hall of Mental Cultivation

The Hall of Mental Cultivation, located in the inner courtyard of Beijing's Forbidden City, is a historic building originally constructed in 1537 during the Ming dynasty. It served various purposes over the centuries, including as a workshop for artisans under the Kangxi Emperor and later as the residence and political center for Qing dynasty emperors, notably the Yongzheng and Qianlong Emperors. The hall features exquisite interior decorations, including polychrome paintings and ancient thangkas, and housed significant cultural relics, including calligraphy works by renowned artists. Following a restoration project initiated in 2006, the hall remains a focal point for visitors interested in China's imperial history and artistic heritage.
