Fanling Lodge

Fanling Lodge is a Grade I historic building and the official residence of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, located in the scenic New Territories. Built in 1934 as a summer retreat for the Governor, it features a unique architectural style that blends Arts and Crafts with Spanish Mission Revival elements. The lodge is set in a 2.3-hectare wooded area, complete with gardens designed by renowned landscape designer Gertrude Jekyll. It has hosted notable guests, including Prince Charles and British Prime Minister John Major, and has been a site for significant political discussions prior to Hong Kong's handover in 1997. Despite its historical significance, the lodge's relevance as an official residence has been debated, raising questions about its future use.
