Archive War (1842) - Texas State Capitol

In December 1842, Austin residents thwarted Governor Sam Houston's attempt to move the Republic of Texas archives to Houston; local innkeeper Angelina Eberly fired a cannon to alarm the town and citizens recovered the records. The confrontation centered on the temporary Capitol and the archives then housed in Austin. The event is commemorated in Austin history and is tied to the site of the present-day Texas State Capitol.
