Great Molasses Flood (dug-out storage tank)

On January 15, 1919, a large molasses storage tank at 529 Commercial Street in Boston's North End ruptured, sending a wave of molasses through the neighborhood that destroyed buildings and infrastructure; the tank and parts of the immediate streetscape were demolished and removed after the disaster. The collapse killed 21 people and led to a prolonged court case and changes in industrial oversight. The original molasses tank structure no longer exists at the site.
