Armadillo World Headquarters (historic music venue site)

The Armadillo World Headquarters operated as a music venue from 1970 to 1980 at 525 N Lamar Blvd and played a central role in Austin's emergence as a live-music city by hosting local and national rock, country, and blues acts. The venue is historically credited with helping to foster the 'progressive country' scene and bringing diverse audiences to Austin concerts during the 1970s. Although the original building no longer functions as the Armadillo, its legacy is frequently cited in histories of Austin music culture.
