Old North Church (Christ Church in the City of Boston)

The Old North Church is the historic 1723 Anglican church in Boston's North End where lanterns were reportedly displayed on the night of April 18, 1775 to signal the approach of British forces ('one if by land, two if by sea'). The church preserves lanterns and commemorates its role in the signal that is a central element of the Paul Revere legend. While some historians debate details of the signaling, the church's involvement is a longstanding part of Revolutionary-era tradition.
