Manifattura Tabacchi

The Manifattura Tabacchi, located in Rovereto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy, is a historic tobacco factory established in the mid-1800s during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Originally built to combat unemployment from a silk industry crisis, it became a significant manufacturing hub for Virginia cigars and other tobacco products. The factory was notable for its social innovations, including the establishment of a nursery and the first workers' union. Despite facing challenges during both World Wars, it adapted and modernized over the years, eventually producing for major companies like Philip Morris. Production ceased in 2008, but the site has since been redeveloped into a clean technology hub, showcasing the region's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
