Powel House - Samuel Powel and Washington's visit

The Powel House, built in the 1760s and located in Society Hill, was the residence of Samuel Powel, Philadelphia's last mayor under British rule and first mayor after independence. George and Martha Washington are documented to have visited the house during their stays in Philadelphia, and the house preserves period interiors and furnishings associated with the Powels. It operates as a historic house museum interpreting late 18th-century elite urban life.
