Milwaukee Cold Storage Co. Building

The Milwaukee Cold Storage Co. Building, constructed in 1892, is a historic Romanesque Revival structure located in the Walker's Point Historic District of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Once the largest cold storage facility in the state, it features two-foot-thick walls and minimal windows to maintain cold temperatures for perishable goods. Originally cooled with ice from the nearby Menomonee River, it transitioned to a mechanical refrigeration system in 1910. The building has a storied history, including a notable ammonia leak in 1955 that led to significant losses. Recently sold in 2019, plans are underway for its restoration and conversion into new uses, contributing to Milwaukee's architectural revitalization.
