The Spectrum - major concert and sports arena (1967–2009)

The Spectrum, which opened in 1967 at 3601 S Broad St in South Philadelphia, served as a principal indoor arena for sports and popular music performances for more than four decades. It was home to the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and hosted hundreds of major rock, pop, and R&B concerts before closing in 2009 and being demolished beginning in 2011. The Spectrum's concert history is a significant chapter in Philadelphia's modern music chronology.
